Mayor of Amman, Eng. Omar Maani said that projects conducted by the Greater Amman Municipality (GAM) in the first two weeks of June mark the Municipality’s celebrations of the Independence Day and the 10th anniversary of His Majesty King Abdullah II’s Accession to the Throne. He said that the projects aimed at symbolizing the meaning of independence, its significance, and the national achievements over the past decades.
Addressing the GAM Council in the regular weekly session, Maani noted that such achievements are testimonial, before the Jordanians, to the years of giving under the King’s leadership. He said that the Municipality has launched several projects in the recent weeks to improve the flow of traffic in the City, and preserve the environment. Maani indicated that GAM is keen to develop the public transport in Amman, and to provide enough spaces for parking lots.
Among these projects were Sahab Bridge project at the cost of JD2.378 million, Al-Nahariyah tunnels on Al-Yarmouk Street at JD3 million, and Al-Mustanedah Bridge on the Ring Road at JD3.6 million. Maani renewed GAM’s commitment to support the youth and sports in Jordan, by establishing more sports facilities, public libraries, and IT centers in all Amman’s regions. GAM has launched, earlier this year, four playgrounds at the regions of Husban, Um Al-Basateen, Al-Nasr, and Basman, as well as the sports hall in Na’our and Wadi Al-Haddada Youth Center at the cost of JD268000.
In the same context, Maani said that GAM aims at increasing and beautifying the Capital’s green areas. In its efforts to preserve the City’s old sites, GAM will soon launch the Abu Darwish Mosque development project in Jabal Al-Ashrifiya. The JD2 million-project will comprise a cultural center, shops, a library, parking lots, and green areas.
A new infirmary for the elderly will be inaugurated in Tla’ Al-Ali, inside Princess Rahma Park. The infirmary will include a multipurpose hall, library, management office, and parking lots, at the cost of JD250000.
Members of GAM Council have highly appreciated the launch of these projects which came as a result of the Mayor’s recent tours in the Capital, and his meetings with citizens and local leaders.
The council awarded the tender of building parking lots for buses and service cabs in Jabal Al-Qala’a (Castle Mount), to a prominent local company, at the cost of JD266.904. The move aimed at developing the site, as members of the council called on the Mayor to discuss the project with residents in the area before initiating it.
Maani said that the project will help in preserving the site’s heritage, and establishing a public square for national festivities to enhance the tourist attraction.
The council also endorsed the tender of carrying out hot asphalt mix in different areas in Amman at total cost of JD2.6, to be executed by one of the local companies.

An event management corporation will organize and manage the festival.

The council also accepted the gift presented by Al-Dabbas Agricultural Corporation, which includes high quality of seeds, and the donation made by Pepsi Jordan Company comprising medicine and medical equipment for GAM employees and workers at a cost of JD8000.
