Maurice Thornton Play Area Update

Added: (Thu Nov 05 2009)

Pressbox (Press Release) - Since its official opening in July, the play area at the Maurice Thornton Playing Field has been widely used, and a large number of children and their families have enjoyed the facilities available.

A memorial bench has been recently installed and residents are now looking into additional equipment which could include another team swing and possibly a water feature. Suggestions from member of the public are welcome.

With regards to vandalism and anti-social behaviour, a small number of cases have been reported since July, and bad language and misuse of the equipment has become an ongoing problem.

Cllr Bryan Burchmore, chairman of the Environment & Leisure Committee, said “It’s really disappointing that, after all the money that was spent to provide youngsters with new play facilities, a certain few are spoiling it for everyone else. I would like to see some respect for all the planning and hard work which has been carried out.”

He added: “Nevertheless, the Town Council is very happy with the overall progress which has been made on the Maurice Thornton site and we’re sure that it will be very well used in the future."
