IMMEDIATE RELEASE

LONDON PLANNING CLIMATE CHANGE

16.11.06 Virginia Water

The Global Warming Alliance is asking politicians to plan today for the threat of irreversible climate change tomorrow by providing incentives for Londoners to reduce their carbon emissions.

‘The bottom line is that we need to cut CO2 emissions by 70% to 80% simply to stabilise atmospheric concentrations,’ says Louise Burfitt-Dons who is spearheading the campaign. ‘Green taxes are one way forward but essentially negative in concept and viewed as penalities. At the GWA we would like to see more reward incentives such as ‘tax cuts for carbon cuts ‘.
Britain is currently ranked amongst the top three countries in the world doing the most to protect against climate change by reducing greenhouse gases. The GWA want the nation to become number one.
‘What happens in London is followed by the rest of the world’ she said, ‘So it seems the perfect city to start with.’
