Pressbox (Press Release) -
Green-fingered volunteers from Hailsham and neighbouring Magham Down are preparing for next year's days of spring sunshine by taking part in the planting of over 10,000 bulbs later this month.
The campaign, organised by the Town Council’s South & South East in Bloom committee, follows on from last year’s successful planting of over 10,000 bulbs, which brightened up neglected areas within Hailsham and brought a splash of colour to the town in the spring.
Volunteers, including young people from the Square Youth Café and Firstfields Resource Centre, will join forces with local businesses and town councillors to plant daffodil, tulip, crocus and narcissi bulbs in South Road, Western Road, Ersham Road, Battle Road and many other grass verges within Hailsham.
Donations for additional spring bulbs are currently being sought and businesses in Hailsham are encouraged to help out in any way they can.
Deputy Town Mayor and chairman of the South & South East in Bloom committee Cllr Jeff Bentley-Astor, said: “Last year, we have been able to benefit from the planting of over 10,000 visible spring bulbs - over and above what would normally be available for us as a working group - improving many of the town’s verges, urban areas and public open spaces.”
He added: “Many enthusiastic volunteers have come forward again this year to help us in our forthcoming planting campaign to plant an additional 10,000 bulbs, demonstrating enormous community spirit. I’d like to thank these individuals and organisations in advance for their time and effort, and for their suggestions as to where we can commence fresh bulb planting schemes.”
If you are interested in donating spring bulbs or would like to get involved in planting them, contact Terry Hall (Hailsham Town Council) on 841702 or email terry.hall@hailsham-tc.gov.uk.
