Hailsham Care Home Resident Celebrates 100th Birthday

Pressbox (Press Release) - A Hailsham care home is set for a grand occasion next week when a local resident will celebrate her 100th birthday in style.

Centenarian Ivy Pearce, who resides at Filsham Lodge in Hailsham, will mark the milestone with a special birthday afternoon on Monday 23rd November at 3.00pm. Family, friends, well-wishers and guests of honour including the Mayor of Hailsham, Cllr Dr Ian Haffenden, will gather to honour Mrs Pearce and celebrate this momentous occasion.

Born Ivy Gertrude Phillips in 1909, Ivy Pearce lived in Hastings until she married in 1935. She brought up her two daughters Ann and Christine for quite long periods on her own while her husband, who served in the Royal Navy, was on tour of duty. Her husband’s naval sword has been traditionally used in the family to cut the cake on special occasions such as weddings, christenings and birthdays, and will be used again for Ivy’s 100th birthday cake.

Cllr Haffenden, officially cutting the cake at 3.00pm and wishing Mrs Pearce good health for the future, said: “It’s wonderful to hear of someone remaining so active at such an age. I’m delighted to be part of Ivy’s 100th birthday celebrations and visiting her and other guests will be such a treat. I hope she has a wonderful birthday party and enjoy many more birthdays to come.”

Livvy Dunford, manager of Filsham Lodge Care Home, said: “Despite reaching her centenary, Ivy does not let her age get the better of her. Ivy is a wonderful lady for her age and, although her mobility has decreased this year, she still enjoys a good quality of life, takes an avid interest in dominoes, crib, music and singing, and remains popular with fellow residents. It will be an honour to celebrate with Ivy on her birthday.”
