GE Invited to Participate in AER Clean Energy Leadership Event

Added: (Wed Sep 23 2009)

GE will join a European team of energy policy and technology experts in Sundsvall, Sweden to discuss sustainable regional energy policies.

SUNDSVALL, Sweden —September 23, 2009—Following the June announcement that GE and the Assembly of European Regions (AER) will host “European Energy Day” on an annual basis, senior GE Energy representatives have been invited to offer expertise at another AER thought leadership event entitled “Energy Efficiency: Regional Solutions for the Future.” The conference will be held September 22-24 in Sundsvall, in parallel with the AER Committee’s autumn plenary session and Interreg IVC MORE4NRG Steering Committee and Monitoring Board meetings, the latter of which aims to improve the effectiveness of regional development policies.

The conference will feature best practices in energy efficiency and regional funding opportunities, and include three interactive workshops designed to assist AER members in improving energy efficiency in both the public and private sector.

GE is pleased to once again collaborate with AER, offering best practices in policy and providing high-tech solutions to Europe’s regional energy challenges. As a global leader in renewable energy technologies, GE’s cleaner energy technologies include wind, solar, high efficiency gas turbines, nuclear, cleaner coal, biomass and Smart Grid products, along with a full range of service offerings to increase efficiency and reduce emissions.

“GE has a full scope of solutions to aid European regions increasing energy efficiency, from generation to transmission and distribution—such as Smart Grid,” said Ricardo Cardoba, President of GE Energy Europe and North Africa. Growth in the renewable energy industry, and resultant economic growth in Europe’s regions, will require strong national and international environmental policy targets and regulatory and financial frameworks for these new technologies to thrive.

GE’s Ecomagination business initiative helps customer’ to meet the demand for energy-efficient products, and GE is also committed to achieving self-imposed internal targets to reduce GHG emissions and water use.

About GE Energy and the Assembly of the European Regions
In May 2009, the Assembly of European Regions - Europe's largest network of regions - and GE Energy, an established European and global player, launched "European Regions Energy Day", a joint initiative to tackle the energy challenges facing European regions today and to promote possible solutions. It is the first summit to bring together regional decision makers and European energy experts and will be held annually in Brussels, Belgium from the end of April 2010.
The European regions are a key player in the choice of the energy solutions to be implemented in their territories. That is why Michèle Sabban, AER President and Ricardo Cordoba, President of GE Energy Western Europe & North Africa, have joined forces to address climate change issues at a regional European level. The partnership creates a unique gateway between globally renowned energy experts and regional public decision makers; it also supports the European Union's energy and environment strategy while creating a benchmark centre of expertise and solutions in the energy field for all the European regions.
The program for the European Energy Summit is available on the AER site at www.aer.eu.
