Pressbox (Press Release) -
seamlessUK offers integrated community information services to meet eGov targets

Crossnet has achieved Level One compliance as a supplier of community information search systems which are compliant with the requirements of seamlessUK standards and functionalities. seamlessUK provides easy access to the best in local and national community information and already has 13 council and borough members.

Crossnet supplies the DScovery cross searching and resource discovery system that has been adopted by several authorities and consortia, including Norfolk, Suffolk and SWRLS (South West Regional Library Service) to enable linking together a range of heritage information sources for cross searching. It is also the system behind the WiLL service – What’s in London Libraries; which links together the library catalogues and community information databases of the London Boroughs.

Diane Whitaker, Crossnet Sales Manager said, “We are very pleased to have achieved Level One compliance with the requirements of seamlessUK standards and we very much look forward to achieving Level Two compliance by implementing a full working system for our first seamlessUK customer by mid-summer.”

Key functionalities required of seamlessUK systems include a capability to:

· Find results from local and national databases and websites through a single search, searching by subject and by place;

· Search the expanding seamlessUK national content package together with local information sources. The national content set will include selected content from: Age Concern, BBC, Community Legal Service – Just Ask Directory, Department of Work and Pensions, HMSO Inforoute, LearnDirect, Advice Guide from Citizens Advice, NCVO, nhs.uk and NHS Direct Online.

· Utilise seamlessUK standards in searching, including the seamless UK taxonomy, geographic data standards and resolution to a map with directions.

· Achieve full compliance with accessibility standards.

Level One compliance is awarded when suppliers have indicated a full understanding, ability and willingness to implement systems, which can deliver this functionality.

Level Two is awarded when suppliers can demonstrate at least one implementation of a working system.

SeamlessUK is working to support development of a market for the supply of compliant systems and is expanding its list of compliant suppliers, which already includes Fretwell-Downing Informatics (Level Two) – the original technical partners in the seamlessUK project funded by the NOF-Digitisation programme.
