London (Uk-loan-market) July, 14 2006: The Bank of England has stated that borrowing of unsecured loans have increased for the second successive month during May and was more than last six month average .Howard Archer, Chief UK and European economist for Global Insight, says that after a slow start due to the world cup, unsecured lending has maintained the overall statistics .Nevertheless, consumer credit is restricted by latest norms.

He further stated that consumers’ borrowing and spending has been boosted lately by sales of televisions and goods related to world cup. He further doubted that this could prove short-term burst of energy from consumers, important complication remains in the long run.

Mr Archer explained that potential earning growth, growing tax burden, rising utility bills, increased debt levels, pensions and growing unemployment are major obstruction. These factors are likely to defy the support from high employment and latest good shaped housing market. He added that high debt levels, rising pension concerns and unemployment indicate that there is increased requirement for many borrowers to enhance their balance sheets. This necessity would be multiplied if the Bank OF England raises its rate of interest in near future.
