State Securities Sales Director To Walk In The Footsteps Of The Maasai To Fundraise For Charity

Added: (Fri Mar 17 2006)

Key points:

• State Securities Sales Director, Andrew Bullard, to undertake charity trek in Tanzania
• Motor Neuron Disease (MND) Association to benefit from fundraising

Friday, 17 March 2006: The Sales Director at a leading asset finance company, Andrew Bullard, will be trekking across the Great African Rift Valley in Tanzania during September 2006, to raise vital funds for the MND Association (registered charity no. 294354).

Motor Neuron Disease is a fatal disease that attacks the nervous system. There is no known cause or cure. According to the MND Association*, the shocking fact is that half of people with Motor Neuron Disease die within 14 months of diagnosis. The one drug licensed to treat the disease only extends life by two to three months.

Supporting the MND Association is a cause close to Andrew’s heart. The charity is run by an inspirational group of volunteers who provide essential care and support to people with MND while also promoting research into causes, treatments and a cure.

The trek should prove to be a demanding one. For 10 days Andrew will be following in the footsteps of the African nomadic tribe, the Massai of Kenya and North Tanzania. Starting in the foothills of the 8,500 ft tall Mount Longdio, a sacred Maasai mountain, he will be walking in desert-like conditions in severe heat and dust for over 25kms per day. The terrain is notoriously wild and rugged and follows a route where Maasai villages and volcanoes rise out of the acacia and savannah bush, creating the most dramatic backdrop imaginable. Overnight will be spent under canvas with very limited comfort or facilities.

Andrew said, “I was extremely encouraged by the moral and financial support received for the expedition I completed last year in Peru for Leukaemia Busters and I am hopeful again that people’s generosity will support me through this new challenge. All sponsorship and donations, however big or small, for the MND Association will be equally matched by State Securities, so together we have the opportunity to make a real difference to help the charity with its vital cause”.

For more information or to sponsor Andrew, contact him on telephone 01489 775618.
