Motor Insurance UK – Newly Elected Government Urged to Provide Greater Car Industry Support

Pressbox (Press Release) -

Although the British people will not know who their newly elected government is until 6th May, the Society of Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT) have urged the winners of the General Election to provide greater support to the UK motor industry.

At present the sector is in desperate need of financial support to transform its business environment and ultimately provide solutions to the growing problem of pothole and general road damage.

The SMMT believes that by maximising the country’s skill resources it is possible to ensure that the industry has a long and profitable future. The price for motor insurance in the UK is becoming readily accepted with many drivers positively seeking alternative measures of securing a lower cost premium. However the SMMT is urging the new government to act immediately to safeguard future jobs.

SMMT chief executive, Paul Everitt, said: "The UK motor industry has managed to sustain vital industrial capability through the recession and is now looking to exploit a strengthening economic recovery."

Mr Everitt has also encouraged that the newly elected government seeks to provide financial support towards further research and development and the work of the Automotive Council to avoid future catastrophes such as the pothole saga last winter that caused a significant increase in motor insurance claims across the UK.
