Whitney Houston will kick off a European tour with five dates in the UK next year
With her tempestuous marriage to Bobby Brown behind her, the American singer has come back stronger, with her new album topping the US charts
It's been 11 years since she's gone on tour but that's not stopping Whitney Houston. The singer announced that she's ready to go on the road again.
The singer, 46, whose comeback album I Look to You is released in the UK on 19 October, will start the tour in Manchester on Thursday 8 April.
In a statement, Houston said “This is my first full tour since the My Love Is Your Love tour, and I am so excited to be performing for my fans around the world after all this time. I am putting together a great show and cannot wait to perform the songs from my new album along with some of your favorites.”
Houston, who has been riding high since the release of her chart-topping album, I Look To You, will begin her tour in April of 2010 with stops in the United Kingdom, Switzerland, Austria, Germany and Belgium with more dated and venues to be announced later on this week.
Prior to the launch of her current album, Houston was in the spotlight not for her singing but for her battles with drugs and the much published breakdown with her then husband, Bobby Brown
She will also play in Glasgow, Birmingham and Newcastle before finishing the UK dates at London's O2 arena on 25 April.
Whitney Houston Tickets for the dates will go on sale on Friday morning.
Houston is due to give her first UK TV performance in 12 years on Sunday night on ITV1's The X Factor.
I Look To You - her first studio album since 2002 - was a US number one following its release there in September.
Last month, Houston told chat show host Whitney Houston she was now drug-free but faced a daily struggle to stay clean.
We have, though, already seen two very different sides of Houston and her future remains unmapped. If the respectful recognition I Look to You has so far received is a sign of things to come, we may just be about to witness Whitney, Act 3.
