Singer’s web site welcomes support of John Lewis Partnership
Vocalist.co.uk was singing a happy tune in London today, with the news that the John Lewis Partnership have chosen to make a generous donation to support the continued development of this otherwise un-funded resource for singers.
Vocalist.co.uk is a stylish UK - based site for singers of all ages, all genres, professional and amateur, at all stages of their musical journey. It gives free access to resources, training and advice from qualified professionals in the music business.
Pre-press and without funding or gimmicks, this lively site has had over 170,000 hits since it went live at the end of April. Proving that great design, accessible content and interactivity are what makes a site truly effective.
Vocalist.co.uk is the concept of award-winning singer and voice teacher Heather Maîr Thomas. It began after she was interviewed in Bliss Magazine, and was overwhelmed by e-mails for help from singers - prepared to "do anything" to be famous!
Concerned about the vulnerability of young singers in the pursuit of "fame", Heather identified a need for a responsible web site offering quality resources, advice and bona fide educational and industry links.
Bobb Strongman, Creative Director of design studio Mondo Ltd, (whose clients include Estée Lauder, Ellesse, Corporation of London, Discovery Foods, Royal College of Surgeons and Natural History Museum,) created the stunning site - which won a Golden Web award for design and content.
Soon Vocalist.co.uk began attracting singers of all age groups and styles. Already the Green Room Notice-board area has over 600 postings. It has evolved into a supportive community for performers who share advice, encouragement and audition news. Last week saw its first marriage proposal from a woman whose boyfriend checks the board every day! He accepted!
Vocalist.co.uk provides equal platforms for both amateur and professional artists, presenting singing as a lifelong art, not just a means to an end. More funding via sponsorship and advertising is needed to further develop this valuable service.

Heather Maîr Thomas is a Graduate & Fellow of Trinity College of Music and Guildhall School of Music & Drama. Awarded the Wavendon Allmusician title by Dame Cleo Laine and John Dankworth she is an experienced performer, singing teacher & radio broadcaster. Heather also works as a music and voiceover consultant to the multimedia industry with 6 years experience of working in web-based projects.
