Music policy makes its mark across daytime listening

Audience and listening up across the day

Virgin Radio’s audience is up with the number of listeners tuning in rising 200,000 quarter on quarter, an increase of nearly 6 per cent

Listening hours are up overall to nearly 25 million, up 9 per cent on the quarter and 3.2 per cent year on year

Nationally, listeners are tuning in for longer, with average hours up to 6.9 hours, up 3 per cent on the quarter and 11 per cent year on year

Virgin Radio’s AM audience has increased 8 per cent on the quarter with FM rising 5.2 per cent on the quarter

The station’s market share now stands at 2.4 per cent overall

Commenting on the results, John Pearson, chief executive, Virgin Radio says: “This is a great endorsement of our music policy. We now have a really distinctive offering of our classic tracks and the best contemporary music of today - and it’s giving listeners nation wide a real reason to tune in.

“Reach and hours are up across all our daytime parts which indicates a particularly strong performance by the station.

“We recognise that the station has gone through a period of change over the past months and we are continuing to develop our programming. However, we are now looking forward to building on these results over the coming months.”
