UK’s largest Church, hosts the biggest
Christian New Year celebration in town

20,000 people are expected to see in the New Year at Kingsway International Christian Centre (KICC), the largest church in Western Europe. Carefully laid plans are underway to attract this unprecedented number of people to the gospel music celebration night on Friday 31st December, which last year attracted around 13,000 people.

How, you may ask, will the 20,000 people be accommodated? Well, in addition to KICC’s 4,000-seater main auditorium, two temporary structures are being erected within the 9.5-acre site, making a total of three seating areas for the event. One of the additional structures has a seating capacity of over 2,000. The second structure is in two sections joined together. Together this totals a seating capacity of nearly 12,000. Both additional structures are made of hard PVC walling with PVC fabric roofing. A staggering 10 days are required to erect both structures, not to mention the heating, lighting, carpeting, staging, lights, cameras etc. that will be added. With seating for over 18,000, KICC expects that the usual staggered arrivals and departures will bring the total up to 20,000.

The theme for this Watch Night event is “Cross Over without a Carry Over”. This seeks to encourage people to cross over into the New Year without carrying over any aspect of their lives that are best left behind - such as sorrow, pains, failures, burdens, challenges. The event also seeks to give people a sense of new hope, new vision, new dreams, new goals, and new opportunities for the New Year.

Part of the service will be broadcast on GOD TV (Sky Digital Channel 671) from 11pm to 5am. The 9-hour programme will be power packed with gospel music from around the globe, praise and worship, prayers, preaching and positive confessions for 2005.

Pastor Matthew Ashimolowo, KICC’s Senior Pastor comments: “I believe that ‘The Night of a Cross Over without a Carry Over’ will be an enjoyable time when we can forget the burden of past sins, sorrows, failures, negative experiences and feelings and usher in the New Year as a time for new hopes, new visions, new dreams, new goals and new opportunities.”

There will also be a whole host of performers including multi-Grammy award nominated artist Nicole C. Mullen. Mullen has performed in many top US and UK venues including Carnegie Hall and the Royal Albert Hall. Jaci Velasquez from the US, Lionel Petersen from South Africa and Sammy Okposio from Nigeria will also minister at this event.
