Tamil Movie gallery

Added: (Wed Jul 28 2010)

Pressbox (Press Release) - The Tamil Movie Gallery boasts some stupendous achievements. From 1916 when the silent movie Keechaka Vaadham (The Destruction of Keechaka) was released till today scores of Tamil movies have been shown on the silver screen. Some have been immensely successful; others only moderately so while the greater number have never made an impact upon audiences one way or another

Some of the movies that have made it into the national hall of fame are Nayakan which was sent to the Academy Awards as a contender, Anjali, ditto, Roja, and Indian.

All the movies listed above in the Tamil movie gallery except Indian have one thing in common. They were all directed by Mani Ratnam. Mani Ratnam is a director who has made his mark on national cinema and critics suggest it may be only a matter of time before he seals his name on the West like other Asian directors have done before him.

Some of these movies however are nothing more than remakes of Hollywood pictures. Nayakan for example is loosely based on Francis Ford Coppola’s Godfather. Anjali is a fusion of two English stories To Kill a Mockingbird and Karen.

Roja on the other hand is an account of the political crossfire in Kashmir and Indian discusses the widespread epidemic of corruption in India.
Though India has a long way to go before it can reach the standard of Hollywood it is gradually getting there. And as education reaches the masses and more people start asking for better cinema, it won’t be long before the tenants in the Tamil movie gallery enter the world hall of fame.
