Added: (Wed Mar 10 2010)

Pressbox (Press Release) - One of the most popular places to go to in the beautiful island of Barbados is the St. Lawrence Gap in Christ Church Parish. Located on the south coast, the resorts here more spread out and evenly isolated. But unlike its neighboring Platinum Coast, this part of the island is more casual and far more inviting. It is the hub of nightlife activity and enjoyment, thus drawing in the younger and livelier crowds as compared to other places.

There is never a dull moment in “The Gap” because the area buzzes with life all day. Dozens of shops, restaurants, bars, clubs and resorts cluster around the area. It is indeed one of the busiest places for different establishments and accommodations such as every luxury and small hotel Barbados, villas, apartments and so on since it is dubbed as the center for nightlife and dining. Given that its main attractions are the different clubs and bars, it caters more to couples, singles and groups of friends than families.

Beaches

There are a lot of prime beaches located along the south coast and almost all have fine, powdery white sand. However, it is windier in this area as compared to the west, making it ideal for surfing and other similar water sports. St. Lawrence Bay is protected for swimming and is known to get quite shallow during low tide. Dover Beach is one of the best beaches in St. Lawrence because of its calm, shallow waters. It is most ideal for snorkeling and a relaxing excursion.

Shopping

There are a couple of duty-free offerings in The Gap, but it may require a bit of trekking over Bridgetown. A place where there is a good range of unique boutiques and shops that sell tourist souvenirs is the Chattel House Village. To purchase local artisans’ wares is best done in Tyrol Cot where blue or green Earthworks Pottery is topnotch.

Nightlife and Restaurants

It is the best place to enjoy an energetic, event-filled night. The main road is home to dozens of bars and local discos. The Ship Inn is a friendly pub that features DJs and local bands. The Oistens Fish Fry is located in a nearby fishing village of Oistens, and it is where Barbados’ best weekend street party takes place. Although most resorts offer their own restaurants and serve their own food, it is a good idea to go around town and discover the varieties of cuisines available in the different restaurants and eateries scattered about. Look for local specialties such as the Bajan style pepper pot which is a rich and spicy stew of oxtails, beef and vegetables. For a more upscale experience, go over to the Restaurant at South Seas in Dover where they offer prime selections of meats, seafood and poultry dishes.

Accommodations

There are a number of accommodations in The Gap which offers choices for the varying preferences of people. There are more opulent hotels such as the Southern Palm Beach Hotel, small hotel Barbados ones such as the Meridian Inn and Ocean 11 apartment hotel, and budget lodgings such as the Annaliesa Guesthouse. There are more to choose from, and the listing can be accessed in a variety of websites on the internet.
