“One Planet At A Time,” a song written by Songwriters Hall of Fame Award-winner Annie Dinerman, is featured in the September 20, 2009 podcast of Newsweek On Air, the online radio show of Newsweek Magazine. The song is a witty look at the cost to our environment when our tax dollars are spent in space. “One Planet At A Time” can also be heard on Dinerman’s new Modern Folk singer-songwriter CD, BROKEN COOKIES, which is starting to get airplay on Folk Radio stations and webcasts in the US and overseas. The September 20, 2009 Newsweek On Air podcast will remain online for one year.
Dinerman challenged percussionist Rex Benincasa to “play garbage in the recording studio.” And he did: plastic bags, a pill bottle filled with pistachio shells, a pizza box, a Snapple® cap, tin can conga drums, pizza sauce can timbales, and glass and plastic bottles combined to make a fun and chunky World Music groove.
“One Planet At A Time” was first broadcast by Bill Hahn of WFDU-FM on the Traditions Program. “One Planet At A Time” was a finalist in the 2006 Music To Life songwriting contest at the prestigious Kerrville Folk Festival in Texas, and was part of the Music To Life compilation CD released to radio stations worldwide. The contest is a project of Noel “Paul” Stookey of Peter, Paul and Mary to celebrate songs for social change.
Annie Dinerman’s BROKEN COOKIES CD was produced by Steve Addabbo (Suzanne Vega, Shawn Colvin).
Annie Dinerman’s music is funny, frank and definitely female. Her newest songs capture what Americans are living through right now: Love and frugality during the Recession, Loss, Recovery, and saving our Environment. Based in New York City, she holds the Abe Olman Award for Excellence in Songwriting from Songwriters Hall of Fame.
