Pressbox (Press Release) -
Following the huge success of last years Scottish National Tractor Show, next month sees this popular event return to The Lawrie and Symington Agricultural Centre, on the 23rd and 24th September.
The 2-day event is held at the new auction mart building in Lanark. Last years event saw over 5,000 farmers, enthusiasts and specialist collectors come through the gates and this year, the organisers of this show promise even more exhibits of both modern and vintage tractors, farm implements and spares, models, and tools.
For those working in farming, leading tractor manufacturers including McCormick, Case and New Holland will be displaying their latest, top of the range tractors for farmers and enthusiasts to view up close. There will also be an auction of obsolete spares, and a number of parts-dealers exhibiting on site. Massey Ferguson will be celebrating 60 years in the business and in conjunction with The Friends of Ferguson Heritage and The Ferguson Club will be displaying tractors from the earliest Ferguson to the latest must have Massey.
The Scottish Tractor Show will also offer a great day out for members of the public, particularly those with an interest in farming. Stands will include a restoration area run by the students from Dumfries based, Barony Agricultural College who will be rebuilding a tractor over the weekend.
Traders at this years show include Dunlop Tractor Spares, Old 20 Parts, G&M Farm Models and other well-known traders. There will also be model displays, both shop-bought and scratch-built, specialist book dealers and tool traders, Agri-jumble and farm memorabilia. There are refreshments available from the superb on-site restaurant and bars.
After the immensely popular auction, last year, when a staggering 1100 lots were entered, visitors to this years show have a chance to bid for classic vintage and veteran tractors, old farm implements, agricultural bygones and obsolete spares. The auction takes place on Saturday at 10:30am. For further information on vintage auction entries, please contact Alistair Muirhead on 01555 662281.
Another highlight of the weekend is the charity vintage road run, organised by the Avon Valley Vintage Power Club. Tractors taking part in the run will leave the mart at 10:30am on Sunday morning. Over 100 tractors are expected, so pre-booking is required (Guy McPherson 01698 793659).
Organiser Mark Woodward said Usually tractor shows and exhibitions are coupled together with steam engines or classic vehicles, but this show is completely dedicated to tractors. Last year the standard of the show tractors was excellent and the atmosphere at the busy auction was fantastic. I also watched a chap buy a brand new tractor straight from one of the exhibition stands!
The show takes place at Lawrie and Symington Agricultural Centre, Lanark (on the A73 opposite the old race course) on the 23rd and 24th September. Opening times are 9am-5pm Saturday and 9.30am-4pm Sunday. Adults 5, Children 2.50. For tickets or further information, please call 01253 407779.
