"Spizz - A major post-punk cult figure" Joe Strummer
Back in May this year SPIZZENERGI kindly stepped down to enable The NEW YORK DOLLS do an album launch at the 100 Club, home of the first punk festival in 1976.
SPIZZENERGI's reward was the support slot that night and they now return as headliners on Thursday 3rd September.
SPIZZENERGI are best known for the guitar driven, fizzy, punk, Sci-Fi classic 'Where's Captain Kirk?' which was originally released on Rough Trade Records back in 1979. 'Capt. Kirk' became the World's 1st number one of the newly formed official Indie chart launched in January 1980. It remained in the Indie top 30 for the entire year and was considered by the late BBC broadcaster John Peel to be "The only Star Trek tribute worthy of the Enterprise's juke box". Stadium rockers R.E.M. liked 'Where's Captain Kirk?' so much they recorded it as a fan club members Xmas gift in 1992.
'The Very Best of Spizz' CD was re-issued by Cherry Red Records last year and front man Spizz was recently described as "Britain's Iggy Pop" because of the amount of energy in his performance. Journalist & broadcaster Paul Morely also hailed Spizz as "The Spike Milligan of Punk" for the surreal humour that emerges haphazardly through his work. The band are also noted for an annual name change with 12 different names which included SPIZZOIL, ATHLETICO SPIZZ 80, SPIZZORWELL, SPIZZSEXUAL & GREENSPIZZ. Today the name changes have ceased as the Guinness Book of Records failed to recognise the record attempt of being the artiste with the most band names. "Too specialised" came the reply from Deputy Editor Shelagh Thomas who also confessed to owning a copy of 'Where's Captain Kirk?'

SPIZZENERGI play at Scorpio Radio's (Leuven, Belgium) 30th Anniversary @ Het Depot on Saturday 5th September Supported by Absolute Body Control
