ROCK FOR A HARD PLACE - MAIDENHEAD BANDS HELP RAISE MONEY FOR CHARITY

Added: (Wed Aug 10 2005)

Three Maidenhead bands will take to the stage on August 22nd to raise funds for Capital FM’s Help a London Child, the charity which supports grass-root projects working with London’s less advantaged children and young people.

The night is being organised by Brighton’s Instant Calmer Promotions in association with Lineout Records, Fushion Sound System and Frances Lindsay & Co Solicitors. All artists are performing for free and so far the event has been organised on a budget of half a brick and a short piece of string. Immaculate Conception printed all flyers and posters for free, the venue has offered its space for free and the night will be powered, for free, by the massive Fushion sound system with support from the Lineout crew.

Headlining is the awesome Kid Galahad with their eclectic mix of sheer venom spitting rock and subdued morning after, lazy days anthems. Taking a break from their hectic schedule of touring, film cameos and general rock stardom, the inimitable team of Ash, Cavey, Paul and Wookie are bringing their seriously infectious music to Rock for a Hard Place to play in this special live event. There is no better place to lose yourself than the effervescent, spine tingling, awe inspiring, that’s-exactly-how-I-feel music of Kid Galahad.

Maidenhead home grown band Jensen will also be taking to the stage and rocking the venue with their up tempo guitar driven riffs and laid back pop/ rock. Originally a high school covers band, Jensen have broken out and created their own distinctive sound with a taste of classic British guitar. A quintessential upbeat sound, scorching power cords and cascading guitars, a crazy mishmash of Supergrass, T-Rex, Feeder and Small Faces, Jensen were made to be part of the soundtrack of your summer.

The genetically experimental Fat Habit will also be putting in an appearance to wow us fusing hardened dance choons with a never-say-die rock vibe. Old school synths, complicated machines with lots of knobs, modern technology and a bit of pop sensibility all go into creating the aurally erotic sound that is Fat Habit. Mix live synthetic melodic hooks, breakbeats, chilled hip hop, dark and jazzy drum ‘n’ bass and sensuous female vocals in your cocktail shaker and taste the result.

The night will be peppered with the vinyl spinning antics of Paul Smith (Revolve and Church of Madness), a handful of VJ’s fresh from Global Gathering, stalls from Lineout Records, a specially created cocktail menu from the fair hand the delectable bar wench Bird Rox and all the mayhem and craziness you can expect from an Instant Calmer night. It’s going to be a good one.

Tickets available from Michelle at Frances Lindsay & Co on 01628 634667.
