Added: (Wed Jul 11 2001)

Pressbox (Press Release) - Organisers of the Jackfield Village Festival, scheduled for 1st-2nd September 2001, are thrilled to announce the latest line-up of musicians for the event, which promises to be an unforgettable weekend of music, dancing and fun. Headlining is renowned local musician Raymond Froggatt, playing on Sunday afternoon in a special ‘Froggie on the Riverbank’ set.

Headlining the Festival on Saturday afternoon are 70’s rock & blues band Excellerators, accompanied by Fir An Dubh, providing a Celtic flavour, Holly Lancaster and the award-winning Elcock Reisen Brass Band. Top of the bill on Saturday evening is Joe le Taxi, a Cajun stomping band, plus acapella group Cuckoo Oak, Neti Vaan & Bart Ramsey, hailing all the way from New Orleans, mediaeval fun from Wyndbag & the Bagettes and barbershop choir The Telfordaires.

A promising double-header is in store for Sunday afternoon’s festival-goers. Local heroes Jackfield Riverbillies and Ebenezer Weazel are performing together in a one-off as one band. Last, but most definitely not least, Froggie on the Riverbank will be the Grand Finale to an exciting weekend – one gig in his Songwriter Tour. Updates to the Festival programme are accessible through the Festival website, www.jackfieldfestival.co.uk. Other young bands wishing to perform are invited to contact Bill Caddick 01952 883009.

The local villagers will also be making their gardens open to the public from 11 am – 2 pm on Sunday; refreshments will be available.

The Festival is a traditional community event providing a weekend of entertainment and involvement for all ages and interests. Music forms the centrepiece of the event, complemented by the Boat Inn Flower Show, and open studios and craft market at the Maw’s Craft Centre. Children and young people have a special focus with a series of workshops in music, singing, storytelling and puppetry.

Events are free to children under 11, and to adults, except for the musical entertainment (£6/weekend, £2/Saturday afternoon, £3/Saturday evening, £4/Sunday afternoon, tickets available in advance from The Boat Inn and Maws Craft Centre, Jackfield). Admission to the Open Gardens is £2; tickets available form Jackfield Village Hall. Further details from the website, www.jackfieldfestival.co.uk.

Located in the heart of the picturesque Ironbridge Gorge, Jackfield lies on the banks of the River Severn alongside the neighbouring towns of Ironbridge, Coalport and Broseley.
