Marah Records Pacifica Radio Special at SugarHill

(HOUSTON, TEXAS) – January 26th, 2006 – Critically acclaimed indie band Marah were recently at the legendary SugarHill Recording Studios, performing an “in studio” special to be broadcast on Houston’s Pacifica KPFT/90.1FM radio station.

Marah have garnered plenty of praise with their fifth self-produced album release “If You Didn’t Laugh You’d Cry” and recently got picked up by Yep Roc Records. They are brothers Serge and Dave Bielanko along with Kirk Henderson, Dave Peterson and Adam Garbinski.

Their music has been compared to the likes of Bruce Springsteen and Ryan Adams and has gained plenty of devotion from popular British novelist/ NY Times music critic Nick Hornby (High Fideliy, About a Boy). Hornby has also appeared recently on stage with Marah.

The SugarHill performance included a 5-song set; recorded and mixed by SugarHill’s Senior Staff Engineer Steve Christensen (Jack Ingram, Destiny’s Child, Clay Walker) in SugarHill’s Studio A. The special also included an in depth interview with indie band connoisseur Rhonda Garner, who hosts popular music show “Radioactive” on KPFT 90.1FM.

KPFT/90.1FM (Houston) is one of the five Pacifica Network stations, along with KPFA (94.1 FM in Berkeley), KPFK (90.7 FM in Los Angeles), WBAI (99.5 FM in New York) and WPFW (89.3 FM in Washington DC).

Nearly 90 percent of Pacifica’s funding comes from individual listener-members and promotes freedom of the press and serve as a forum for various viewpoints, cultural diversity and community expression.

Broadcast air date for the performance is yet to be confirmed, however SugarHill Recording Studios will be streaming the performance on their website www.sugarhillstudios.com in the near future.
