One Sound, One Skill and One Soul Stands Out
America has had enough of the hype and through the power of social networking the angry beast has awakened. While the music industry’s “big-wigs” are busy complaining about CD sales plummeting and free downloading, there is a new revolution of “real music” screaming loud and proud. With so many played out rhyme schemes and cookie cut images the fans will no longer settle for what the industry has programmed them to listen to for so long. Toyota Music and Myspace Records have responded to that screaming voice. Myspace.com the social network godzilla now gives unsigned artists that opportunity to shine in the first ever “Rock The Space” music contest. Once the song is uploaded and accepted into the contest unsigned artists will then have to promote their online demo tape and create their own buzz. On July 2nd, 2009 a panel of record industry professionals will chose five finalists that will battle it out for a recording contract with Myspace Records and $10,000 worth of Fender music equipment.
In the midst of all the music industry’s turbulence and the social networking “whoopla”, there stands one man, with one beat and one rhyme. Myspace Records decided to filter it down to 10,000+ artists who will battle it out for the top five spots. For the past three weeks Cookoo’s demo “Me And My Beat” has ranked in the top 10 nation-wide across all music genres and has gained him local and nationwide exposure. A top 10 song ranking is a milestone in its’ own right.
