AWAY WITH THE old-style country-show and in with the new! Margam Country Show will be celebrating its tenth birthday this year – so expect a BIGGER and BETTER show than ever before! Want a family day out in South Wales this bank holiday weekend? Read on...

Based in a beautiful setting surrounded by lakes, parkland and the historical Margam Castle, Margam Country Show always proves a GREAT family day out – but this August Bank Holiday, they’re making a special effort!

Event organiser Alison Lloyd commented “We’ve worked even harder than ever before to make sure there’s something for everyone! We’re expecting over 20,000 visitors over the 3 days and this year should be the best ever!”

For the Mums…

The Women's Institute 's marquee has a 'that's entertainment' theme this year with over 1000 entries. The fur and feather marquees always draw-in the crowds, with the fascinating Welsh National Rabbit Club and the Poultry Club of Wales joining in. Within the Countryside Exhibition Marquee displays are being staged by many of the local environmental groups including the Badger Society, RSPB and Countryside Council for Wales. Don’t forget the tenth Margam Flower and Vegetable Show which includes dahlias, chrysanthemums and fuchsias. The Dragon Bonsai Society is joining in again to demonstrate the amazing art of Bonsai, as well as bring-along a few century-old samples! The classics are abundant – the Neath Canine Society Dog Show, classic hand-made Welsh crafts from teddies to furniture, and much more for your entire family to enjoy...

For the Dads…

A great year for the men in the crowd! As always, the Talbot Karate team will be kicking into action, and don’t forget to watch Farmer Ted and his quad biking chicken with the kids – it’s not just the kids who’ll adore this! For those wanting a more relaxing day, chill-out in the grounds and listen to the live bands, watch the Bird of Prey Flying Display or why not gaze into the ponds of the West Wales Koi Keepers and wonder just how much one of those giant Koi Carp weighs!? For the dare-devils within, ‘have a go’ with the Margam Archers, Bridgend Air Rifles and Eurotrap Clay pigeon Shooting. And, for the DIY-Dads, why not visit the Trade Stands where ‘Business in the Community’ award winner Benfield ATT will be offering an exclusive discount on DIY Sheds, Decking Kits, Home Offices and Log Cabins bought on the day, as well as showing-off their DIY Garage & Stable Kits. And if you’re thinking of having a home extension, loft conversion, or even Self-Building your own house, they’ll have staff available to talk you through the pro’s and con’s of building with timber frame.

And for the Kids?…

As always, the children will be kept happy for hours on end! The Llangeinor Pony Club are joining the Show this year to have their annual pony club games…believe us, these are not your usual ponies – expect amazing stunts from these amazing ponies and riders! New for 2005, children (including the ‘big kids’ amongst you!) will love the Kids Zone. With Circus workshops including Kite Making and Face Painting, as well as the classic Chunkey Russell, they’ll have great fun! Oh, and how could we forget to watch Rudi the Clown and his Comedy Car!

Date for Diary: Saturday 27th, Sunday 28th and Monday 29th August 2005

So, an amazing day out for all over the greatest Bank Holiday weekend of the year – you won’t regret it!
