Album Review: Nick Tann – Life is a River
An up and coming artist, who is slowly but surely sneaking up on us all, let me introduce Nick Tann. Singer, songwriter and guitar playing extraordinaire. Having first heard Nick’s music over the Internet, imagine my delight when like a rolling stone he started to gather moss. In large quantities. Not only producing an album, but appearing on i-tunes ready for download and recently appearing on nothing less than BBC radio. His music was played due to the sheer number of emails that bombarded them requesting they play his music NOW DAMMIT. His songs are surprising. Surprising in their difference to one another. Just when you think you have nailed his 'sound' he throws a Spanish guitar or a sitar into the works to dumbfound you. Just when you think you know him you then find out he played every note of the music himself, and recorded the whole album himself as well as writing it all. You then instantly replay all the songs again thinking, is it possible that I like them even more now? The answer is yes. From listening to 'Dave' and gently smirking to yourself that you know a 'Dave' and trying very hard to remember the words, to the gently fabulous 'I Just Can't Get Happy' which you hum along to wishing someone had written it for you, and onto the harder more gritty stuff like 'That Woman'. I can't talk about all his songs except for the first one that made my heart flip and my inner music woman think 'note this one girl its a winner' was 'How Can It Be Wrong', which every person in the world can feel as if it was written just for you, and we all have someone we want to play it to. That’s the key to Nick, he is inside your head and now he is about to crawl into your heart. Review by Maxine Redding of Infusion Magazine 26 February 2008
