LPN Sparks Curiosity with Children
---BEGINS---
20th May 2003 - London Power Networks has launched a site to engage children of all ages in the basic principles of electricity, including its history, safety, energy efficiency and how it is generated at power stations.
www.electricityineducation.co.uk is a flash based site featuring games and quizzes that are fun and challenging for children of all ages. Users are directed around the site by Michael Faraday in his flying time machine.
The Electricity in Education web site is based on the structure of the National Curriculum key stages. Content is divided into three areas enabling a different teaching style for each age group.
Design agency Loud Internet designed and built the complete site. Managing Director, Ian Buzer commented “Once a topic is completed, each child faces a quiz where they are tested on the information they have just read. At the end of each successful completed quiz the student is rewarded with a specially designed game that further reinforces their learning.”
The website integrates Macromedia Flash animation with a Microsoft SQL server database. This enables each student to save their scores and come back at a later date to move on to new levels. Loud was careful to acknowledge the importance of privacy of data.
