Pressbox (Press Release) - Never mind the ‘luck of the Irish’ …

Aberdeen has been revealed as the luckiest city in the UK, according to a new survey.

A whopping 47 per cent of residents have won a tenner on the lottery 10 times and one in 10 has won a staggering £2,000 or more.

And a quarter claim to have won over £300 at card games and 16 per cent regularly win cash by playing online poker, roulette and blackjack.

In contrast, Birmingham emerged as the UNLUCKIEST city, according to a poll of 4,000 Brits by gaming site Jackpotjoy Bingo

Ten per cent of Aberdonians folk even have a lucky ‘dabber’ (fat felt-tip pen) when they play Bingo and more than half (55 per cent) of them consider themselves very lucky.

But only one in 10 rely on a lucky number, whereas two-thirds of folk living in Chelmsford do.

And the system seems to be working for residents of the Essex city – a third of residents claim to have won £3,000 on either online bingo or playing in a traditional hall.

An unfortunate 30 per cent of Brummies have NEVER won anything on the lottery and a quarter confess to losing money at card games.

A spokesman for Jackpotjoy Bingo said: “The survey results revealed that people living in Aberdeen do win more competitions than any other UK city. They also regard themselves as lucky, so their positive attitude is obviously working.

‘’Unfortunately those living in Birmingham don’t appear to have much luck – but I’m sure if they persevere their luck will change.

‘The Jackpotjoy Bingo Deal or No Deal game jackpot is currently over £250,000 so with a little luck someone could win themselves a life-changing fortune!’’

The second unluckiest city was Cambridge followed by Belfast – who obviously can’t claim to have the luck of the Irish.

Only eight per cent of Brits have a special ritual when it comes to picking lottery numbers, but six per cent of UK adults insist on wearing certain clothes to bring them luck.
