INDIE FEATURE “RUNAWAYS” BECOMES OFFICIAL SELECTION

Added: (Tue Sep 13 2005)

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Los Angeles, CA-September 12, 2005—Director/Producer Brent Bambic wanted to respond to the epidemic of runaway kids, to the 1.3 million youths living on the streets of America. Bambic says, “Film is a very powerful way to communicate a message, that’s my intention. Hopefully “Runaways” will increase the general public’s awareness of this vitally important social issue and effect a change.”

And “Runaways” is finding its audience. The movie has recently secured worldwide distribution, was selected Best Feature at the FirstGlance Hollywood Film Festival, was an Official Selection of the Artivist Film Festival, was an Official Selection of the FirstGlance Philadelphia Film Festival, was an Official Selection of the Action on Film Festival, was an Official Selection of the NewFilmmakers Series in New York, and has just become an Official Selection of the FAIF Film Festival. The festival takes place in Los Angeles from October 9th to the 14th and “Runaways” will screen on Wednesday, October 12 at 8:30pm. For more information, please visit www.magicalfilmfest.com

Reviews of the film have been excellent. Todd Schwartz of CBS Radio proclaims, “Four Stars (Highest Rating), a powerful, compelling portrait of humanity on the fringe.” Mark Snyder of PMP Network raves, “A brilliant film that powerfully illustrates the problems of runaways.” And the BBC affirms, “Charming, insightful indie film.”

The movie, shot dogma style, is a realistic rendering of a runaway teenage boy’s (Austin O’Brien) struggles on the streets of Los Angeles. However, according to Bambic, anyone can relate to his dilemma, “Although the movie takes place in L.A., it could be any city where Steve’s story unfolds”.

Produced on a micro budget, Bambic put aside his other projects in order to bring this story, which he felt needed to be told, to the big screen. Additionally, the young filmmaker has arranged for a portion of the project’s proceeds to be donated to programs that deal with this issue.

Bambic’s next project is “Beelzebub”, a supernatural thriller that explores the nature of faith. It’s being produced by Stronghold Productions and Echelon Entertainment and will be released in the summer of 2006.
