We are moving towards a truly global community, as increases in commercial flights and the invention of the internet has allowed businesses and organizations to operate globally. Obviously, there are vast differences between the people around the world, and we all have our own cultures and values which outsiders may not understand. As a result, racial and cultural prejudices are prominent in all societies, and there is constant news coverage of cultural clashes and racial attacks no matter where in the world you go. For this global community we are aiming for is going to work, cultural appreciation, or at the very least, understanding, and respecting the differences between us, as we live right next door to each other in the same neighbourhoods, is crucial.
TrueRoots are currently raising money for, is entitled Songs from the Little Road, which is aimed at preserving an ancient art form which is slowly being lost, as the artists are unable to sustain themselves. A group of film students will travel to West Bengal in June-July, and will document this process and hope to promote and help these artists, as a part of the money made from the film will be given directly to an NGO working in West Bengal which will help these artist communities survive. We have organized 2 fundraisers, on on the 30th of April at the Paradise Rock Club in Boston, and one at the Oh! Bar on this comingi thursday (27th of april), 111 Camden High Street, Camden, London. Doors open at 8 pm, and there will be a 5 pound cover charge. A guest list is available, but it is filling up fast so contact cathrine.sorlie@truerots.org asap if you wish to be on the guest list.
Note: Getting your name on the guest list does not exempt you from the cover charge, it just gets you in without having to stand in line at one of the hottest clubs in Camden.
