Girls On Film’s debut CD showcases their signature sound
Tallahassee – With the release of their first full-length album, Danceteria, Florida’s Girls on Film have managed to give electronica fans something different. The album will be the first chance for home listeners to interact with “Dancetronic Glam Wave” – the band’s signature sound. With the state of Florida behind it, the eleven-track CD delivers a fresh take on synthesizer driven dance music.
Dancetronic Glam Wave is the fashion-fueled combination of high-energy stage antics and synthpop beats that have made Girls on Film’s live show a must see in the Southeast since their inception in 2000. Over the past year, the girls have been hard at work with producer David Murphy as they transferred their energy and sound onto record.
Part retroactive/part progressive, Girls on Film have taken advantage of their first recording to produce an album that is reminiscent in spirit of what The New York Dolls self-titled album did for rock and roll, or what Television did for post-punk. Debut albums are sometimes the best showcases for new sounds, and Danceteria is no exception. The sharp production values complement the angular, cyclical riffs. The warbled voice of lead singer Rio reminds us how cool disinterest sounds when juxtaposed with angst soaked lyrics.
Overall, Danceteria delivers a spin on electronic music that sets it apart from the pack and makes it a must play at dance parties where people actually want to dance.
