Closed Head Injury To Left Hemisphere Of Brain Results In Development Of New Author’s Right, Creativ

Added: (Tue Sep 20 2005)

Marilyn Lee Ayres publishes her first novel, Inheritance of Gold, after losing much of her memory, and skills such as reading and writing, after a closed-head injury in 1990.

Cambridge, Ontario, Canada – September 2005 – Marilyn’s will to live, her determination, and fifteen years of intense therapy, combined to assist her in re-learning many, but not all, of the skills she had lost as a result of her accident. However, it was the development of the right side of her brain which eventually brought about the greatest transformation to her life.

Inexplicably drawn to art, Marilyn began painting for the first time in her life. “Before my accident, I had trouble drawing stick people, “ she says. Shortly after her first forays into art, she began writing, then came wire art. Of these newfound artistic abilities, Marilyn says: “I felt I had lost so much of everything else, I was in awe of these wonderful new skills.”

Inheritance of Gold is set in Marilyn’s home town of Kirkland Lake, a mining community in Northern Ontario, during a time of great unrest. Union members are set against non-union… even within families. Miners are killed in a deliberately set underground explosion, and many unanswered questions surface when the union leader is found murdered. Some condemn the mine owner who suddenly and inexplicably leaves town with his family, while others feel the union is manipulating everyone. Hard times can unite or separate communities. It can be a time of great sacrifice when emotions run high. Add a touch of romance to the mysteries and you have “a captivating book… hard to put down.”
