Cable Prices Rise In Slumping Economy as Dish Network Prices Drop

Smithtown, New York, June 29, 2009 - According to a cable company representative, cable companies have been hurting in the tri-state area as well as in other parts of the country. Many of these cable companies are laying off employees just to avoid declaring bankruptcy. In a desperate struggle to survive in today’s current economic conditions, many of these cable companies have been forced to increase their rates. In fact, some companies have even been forced to raise their prices by as much as twenty five percent. As you can imagine, cable subscribers were not too happy about that. As a result some of them have chosen to switch to Dish Network.

As cable prices continue to rise, more and more customers are ending their continued subscription with cable companies. Instead, these former cable customers have chosen to turn towards Dish Network for their television service. Today’s struggling economy certainly is not affecting every company in the television service providing industry. Dish Network has managed to fare much better than the majority of cable companies . This comes as a surprise to many people in the industry because normally cable is only slightly behind Dish Network when it comes to sales. Many senior executives in the industry attribute this sudden change to several different factors.

Senior analysts say that one of the major contributing factors to Dish Network’s success is the sheer number of people that they are able to reach with their service. Every person in the country can receive access to Dish Network because the service is provided to people via satellite. A satellite broadcast can reach every home in the country where cable cannot. One of the major problems that cable companies face is being able to provide service to large numbers of people. The fact of the matter is that cable companies function off of lines of cable. For these companies they must lay down hundreds of miles of cable in order to provide customers with service. This is just an added expense that makes it difficult for many cable companies to survive in today’s difficult economy.

Many senior analysts in the industry also attribute cable’s downfall to the current success of Dish Network. In fact, thousands of customers across the country have made the decision to switch from cable to Dish Network. Many people with the industry were at first baffled by this, but then realized the causes behind it. First off, Dish Network is providing their customers with many new incentives and free upgrades. One of the most enticing free upgrades that Dish Network has offered their customers is free service to HDTV. On top of that, Dish Network is not even charging their customers for installation of their HDTV equipment. As it seems, cable has had a difficult time competing with this free upgrade. Most cable companies require their customers to pay a small fee if they want professional installation of their HDTV equipment.

People that have multiple cable boxes in their home seem to be one of the biggest groups of people that are making the switch to Dish Network. Most people in the television service industry attribute this to the fact that cable charges its customers for an extra cable box. On the other hand, Dish Network has decided to give their customers an additional television box for no additional monthly cost. People that have multiple cable boxes has said that switching to Dish Network has provided them with a way to save hundreds of dollars on their yearly expenses.
