Added: (Fri Jul 15 2005)

THE BBC MOVE IN TO CASTLE HOWARD

This summer visitors to Castle Howard may recognise a few famous faces as they tour the House and Gardens. The BBC have selected Yorkshire’s premier historic house to be the location for the second series of their hit magazine show, Castle in the Country.

Presented by Nikki Chapman of Pop Idol and Sunday Style, and John Craven of Country File and former Newsround presenter, the programme will delve into life at the historic house, both past and present, revealing stories of the people who have made Castle Howard such a unique place.

Steve Potter, BBC Producer said: “Castle Howard is the ideal location for the second series. Our first series was at Glamis Castle in Scotland, and we needed to ensure that the new location was as visually stunning and just as full of good stories to tell. Castle Howard was the perfect choice for both”.

Sections within the programme will include: art and antiques, gardening, cleaning tips from the household staff, behind the scenes at the house, as well as stories from the wider estate and region. These include features on classic cars, property restoration, local crafts, local produce, plus much more. Yorkshire’s cultural heritage will also be featured, with tales of famous people such as the Brontes and Dick Turpin.

A regular cookery slot will feature celebrity chef, James Martin, who will be returning to his childhood home. Serving up an array of mouth-watering dishes, using local produce, with some ingredients sourced from Castle Howard’s own farm shop to tempt the viewer’s taste buds.

Filming will continue throughout July and into August and lucky visitors may well catch a glimpse behind the scenes.

Castle Howard Owner, The Hon. Simon Howard comments: “By choosing Castle Howard and the local community, the BBC is helping to support tourism within the region. We hope that viewers enjoy the programme so much that they will want find out more about North Yorkshire and Castle Howard”.
