Martha Lindsey (Sheff) Hanson, a speech and language pathologist in her 33rd year of practice, has studied her pediatric cases over the years. She was inspired to write this book, appealing to parents, educators and legislators in the behalf of children, who are being pushed into early academics and use of electronic media to levels that exceed their developmental abilities and social maturity. The perils of poor educational strategies, including the misuse of statewide assessments, and the physical and social difficulties resulting from premature and excessive use of electronic media are thoroughly examined and viewed in combination with changes in parenting philosophies. This book is well researched and should serve as a wake-up call and a catalyst for much needed change.
