WebCT announces the beta release of WebCT Campus Edition 6

A host of new features will allow faculty to easily create engaging course environments; new infrastructure will enhance data integrity and reliability
London, 2005 — WebCT, provider of higher education’s most flexible and widely used e-learning solutions, today announced a new version of WebCT Campus Edition™. WebCT Campus Edition 6 takes WebCT’s market-leading course management system to the next level, delivering unprecedented advancements in ease of use as well as cutting-edge teaching and learning functionality.
WebCT Campus Edition 6 will be generally available at the end of the second quarter. A beta version is being installed now at a number of test sites as well as at colleges and universities enrolled in the WebCT Campus Edition 6 Campus Partner Program, including the University of Nottingham, California State University, Sacramento; Corning Community College (New York); Johnson County Community College (Kansas); Southern Texas College; and The University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston.. The Campus Partners are working closely with WebCT to establish best practices for upgrading that the entire WebCT community can learn from.

WebCT Campus Edition 6 is based on a new technology infrastructure. It will run on a relational database back end (Oracle® or Microsoft® SQL Server) and application server (BEA WebLogicTM). This new infrastructure provides significant benefits for Campus Edition customers, including enhanced reliability, security, and data integrity. WebCT Campus Edition 6 fulfils customers’ top 10 wish list WebCT has also empowered teachers and learners with a long list of new, easy-to-use features in WebCT Campus Edition 6, including the 10 most popular requested additions. Among them are enhanced discussion navigation, easy upload of multiple files, and freezable grade book columns. WebCT Campus Edition 6 also includes a host of innovations that will allow faculty members to more easily create engaging course environments for their students – including new options such as Group Sign-Up Sheets that instructors can use to streamline collaborative learning.
