UCKG’s Training Centre takes the ‘Next Step’

The UCKG Training Centre in Finsbury Park has taken further steps to extend its vocational training and job seeking services through its appointment to national training network ‘Next Step’. The Training Centre is now working with other network members such as Jobcentre Plus and Learn Direct to deliver basic skills education and careers guidance across central London.
“There are many people finding it hard to get into education and employment, either because they have no qualifications or their current qualifications are below the required level,” explains Samantha Dixon, a UCKG Training Centre advisor.
“We are committed to helping people improve their basic skills, obtain appropriate qualifications, rebuild their confidence and achieve competence at work. With the support of the Next Step network, there has never been a better time to discuss your aims and ambitions with a UCKG advisor.”
Advisors from Hackney CONTACT Team at Jobcentre Plus are already on-hand at the UCKG Training Centre twice a week to help with job searches and with CV and letter writing. They can also help with interview preparation for people of all ages and abilities.
The Training Centre provides an up-to-date teaching and learning environment complete with a modern computer suite with full Internet access, and crèche facilities for parents who are studying.
“Popular vocational courses include computer literacy, English for speakers of other languages and business development courses,” continues Samantha. “These services are open to individuals of all ages and abilities. We are an extremely approachable learning centre and often help those who have been out of education for a significant period of time,” added Samantha.
Last term’s Training Centre students have now progressed to secure jobs such as receptionists, sales assistants, and even chefs, while others have moved into further education.
