Student website www.unitown.co.uk is celebrating today after being chosen by online publisher www.bookboon.com to be one of only five UK launch-partners.
Bookboon offers economics, engineering, finance, IT and science students the opportunity to download texbooks and print them out in their entirety for free.
Suzanna Chaplin, Co-founder of Unitown, said:
“We’re a website that helps students better manage their budgets. With a rise in student loan interest rates looking increasingly likely, we’re delighted to be able to reduce the financial burden buying textbooks places upon students.”
Danish company Bookboon is already a major success throughout the world. A similar partnership with the NY Times helped increase traffic to the student section of their website by 30%. Bookboon usually charges a £5000 subscription fee to large media organisations. However, because partnering with Unitown allows them to break into the UK student market and reach a large proportion of the country’s 2.3million in higher education, Bookboon offered their services for free.
E.A. Blake, Sales Manager at Bookboon, said:
“Unitown is the only website where students can get exclusive student discounts, cheap travel deals, gig and club tickets and sell old textbooks. This made them a natural launch-partner for us.”
Fiona Bateman, Unitown’s co-founder, added:
“Bookboon’s investment in Unitown proves how important the £15billion a year student UK market is becoming. We can say with confidence that no other website helps students to spend small and live large as much as Unitown.”
