The New Improved Editions of Black Scientists and Inventors Books 1 and 2
Added: (Wed Jan 19 2005)
Black Scientists and Inventors Books 1 and 2 were originally published to highlight the existence of black people from all over the world who had made some significant contribution to the fabric of modern life. The core idea, to provide an alternative career path to the music/sport aspirations more commonly associated with black youth. That said we wanted the books to be accessible to all children, because the stories are worthy of a wider audience, we wanted to make the books practical and fun using questions and answers, ideas for projects and in Book 2 mini experiments.
We started with enormous ideals and miniscule resources, but made good of the little we had, to write, design and edit the books. Almost six years for Book 1 and two years for Book 2 later, with several thousands of units sold in the UK alone, and the books becoming more popular every day we have now designed them both in full-colour, with key coded sections and new experiments or scientific investigations for Book 1. All in all a fresher cleaner look more complementary to the text, which by and large has remained the same.
The books have been used to motivate students of varying levels of ability, to learn Science, History, Maths, English and Geography and to instil a sense of self-worth and confidence. If runaway slaves and everyday people can invent things, surely I can too.
Black Scientists and Inventors Books 1 and 2 are extremely popular during Black History Month, but can and should be used throughout the school year. We are insanely proud of the evolution of the original concept to these two stonkingly gorgeous and educational books. We invite you either to take another look or to come and journey with the scientists and inventors on a fascinating and uplifting tour of what it takes to create or innovate something from the murky depths of your own head.
Black Scientists and Inventors Books 1 and 2 priced at the incredibly affordable £5.99 per book, a must for every child's bookshelf.
