Amman Jordan – June 2005 In line with Jordan Telecom's drive to support leadership and innovation, CEO Laurent Mialet and Laith al Qasem, First Deputy for HRH the Chairman of Princess Sumaya National Entrepreneurship Competition (PSNEC), signed an Agreement, by virtue of which the Jordan Telecom Fund sponsors the Initiative's reward, PSNEC. The Fund is the sole sponsor of the reward.
Mialet asserted after the signing ceremony that the Agreement came to translate His Majesty King Abdullah's directives to support creativity and excellence in all spheres. He said that the participation of the telecom sector in this endeavor and in support of the youth in general, comes to raise a generation in pace with technological developments. "We strive to enhance creativity amongst the youth to enhance their alleviation of the standards of the whole society," Mialet said.
Al Qasem expressed the University's high regard for Jordan Telecom's support for the reward. He said that the University aims in launching this national project are to develop and expand the concept of entrepreneurship in the IT sector. We work to stimulate creativity, and pave the path for creative ideas to become productive entities that would contribute to the build up of Jordan's modern knowledge based economy, he added.
Al Qasem said that this cooperation with Jordan Telecom in support of this initiative is but a feature of the University's endeavors to promote technological, social and economic development in Jordan. The University works to build strong cooperation ties between the education and business sectors in the Kingdom, to reach a mutual vision that would enable students benefit from fair competition, thus establishing professional expertise and know-how as the bases of success.
The Princess Sumaya University launched this initiative during the ICT Forum at the Dead Sea, held last October. Through it the University aims to enhance emerging commercial benefits from technology, in a manner that embodies a new spirit and renders financial rewards for the Jordanian economy.
The Jordan Telecom Fund was the first to come forward and to offer a sponsorship package for this pioneering national project. "Our role is to render all our potentials towards the enhancement and elevation of the whole Jordanian society, the youth and students sector in particular, by providing them with IT tools that would prompt further innovation and excellence." Mialet concluded.
