The Australian Kindle is Now Available

Added: (Wed Jan 06 2010)

Pressbox (Press Release) - January 06, 2010 – Australia – BookOffers.com.au – announced that the amazon.com
Kindle has become available in Australia beginning last October 19. Australian book lovers will no doubt have the new international Kindle on the top of their Christmas lists or post-Christmas shopping this year. BookOffers.com.au predicts that the arrival of the Kindle in Australia will be quite a change for the Australian book industry as well as book lovers. Aussies are massive early adapters so we predict that thousands of Kindles will sell prior to and even after Christmas 2009.

BookOffers advises its customers to be very careful to buy the correct
Kindle version for Australia.
So far, Australian buyers need to think about the following before purchasing:

1. The Kindle is U.S.$259 including U.S.$20 for shipping (via Priority International Courier) which works out to be around AUS$305.
2. As of December there are now 288,000 book titles available to Australia.
3. Delivery is estimated at 3-5 days to Australian addresses.
4. A power cable is not included – a micro USB cable is included so you will need to charge it from your computer or buy a mains power adapter.
5. Books are priced in US Dollars, mostly around USD$9.99, so make sure you convert this to AUD before purchasing.
6. The Browser and blog reading functions of the Australian Kindle will not work in Australia
7. The Australian Kindle 3G coverage map uses an AT&T SIM card and a global roaming arrangement and does not cost you anything. There are no subscription fees or mobile data plans involved.
8. Orders are on a first come first serve basis with shipments starting on October 19.
9. Australian customs will not charge for import duty.

Customers in Australia will also enjoy:

• Books in Under 60 Seconds: Think of a book and you could be reading it in under a minute
• Free 3G wireless lets you download books right from your Kindle.
• Longer Battery Life: Now read for up to 1 week on a single charge with wireless on, a significant improvement from the previous battery life of 4 days.
• No monthly fees, service plans, or hunting for Wi-Fi hotspots.
• Large Selection: Over 280,000 English-language books to choose from plus U.S. and international newspapers and magazines.
• Low Book Prices: New York Times Best Sellers and New Releases are $11.99, unless marked otherwise.
