THE SECRET TO ANGER MANAGEMENT IN CHILDREN REVEALED !

Added: (Tue Feb 17 2009)

Pressbox (Press Release) - Bianca Tora, a teacher with more than 30 years experience and the grandmother of a 6 year old child diagnosed with Oppositional Defiant Disorder has found a way to break through to children who have anger management issues. She presents this way in her new book Dear Sebastian, Reclaiming The Power of Metaphor available on Amazon.com. This book deals with brain neuroplasticity as well as the power of belief and intentions.

In this candid book, Tora admits that she once believed that behavior problems were the result of poor parenting or a flawed brain. That is, until she discovered research into Brain Neuroplasticity and the Power of Belief and Intentions.

“I had been a teacher for 30 years and for me it was black and white. Bad behavior was the result of bad parenting. Students who did well and behaved had great parents. It was a very one-sided view that was completely shattered when my grandson came in to the world, “ said Tora.

Tora’s grandson, Sebastian, was suspended from Kindergarten and was recommended for placement in a facility for kids with behavioral problems at the age of 6. This was when Tora and her family began looking for other alternatives.

Tora discovered that new research indicates that behavioral problems are not necessarily the result of a “flawed brain;” often they are caused by a delay in the functions of the prefrontal cortex that regulate and control emotions. Moreover, she found out that behavior in children is often susceptible to food and diet.

“We began to work with Sebastian to develop the executive functions of the prefrontal cortex. We focused on new activities such as math drills, karate, chess, hockey, soccer - exercise and activities that can generate new neural circuits in his brain. We also placed him on a sugar-free, gluten-free and dairy-free diet.”

In addition, Tora and her family began to recognize pending signs of Sebastian’s tantrums and gave him options for handling his anger that included hitting arranged pillows, walks, drawing pictures of the anger and other activities that redirected his anger and carved alternate neural routes in his brain.

“We also understood the power of metaphor,” said Tora. She said that if the child can resonate with the right metaphor, it can influence his belief system. “The key to changing his behavior is helping him resonate with the right metaphor.” They began calling him “light” and reinforced the idea that he was good, wholesome and light in everything that he did.

In addition, Tora and her family revisited their own anger and they way they reflected to him their fears and anxiety about him. Instead of seeing him as a problem child, they began to see him for what he was - a 6 year old child. They stopped hounding him and began to work with him.

Today, Sebastian is a happy 7 year old who is doing well in academics in school as well as getting along with other children. In 7 months, this child, through the hard work of Tora and her family, has earned the chance of creating a bright future for himself.

By learning about brain neuroplasticity, working with Sebastian’s parents and the school, Tora was able to make a tremendous impact on the life of her grandson. The book, Dear Sebastian, Reclaiming The Power of Metaphor details the journey that they embarked on together and how it changed not only the life of one little boy, but also those around him.

William A. Tiller, Ph.D., Fellow to the American Academy for the Advancement of Science as well as Professor Emeritus of Stanford University’s Department of Materials Science read Dear Sebastian, Reclaiming The Power Of Metaphor and said:

“This author has an inspired touch with words that play the human heart like a Stradivarius varnished by love and aged with wisdom….This book is a treasure and I strongly recommend it for all readers.”

This book can help any parent or grandparent who is dealing with a defiant, angry or hyperactive child deal with anger management issues and help children learn how to control anger.
