Princess Sumaya University for Technology Signs High-Tech Memorandum of Understanding with Germany’s

Amman, Jordan (September 2005) – Inline with the efforts to intensify mutual academic and scientific cooperation with its international counterparts, Princess Sumaya University for Technology (PSUT) signed last week in Amman a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Germany’s Darmstadt University of Technology (TU Darmstadt).

The MOU is a major step that lays down a renewable five-year-term of extensive scientific and cultural partnership and cooperation between the two universities.

Professor Hisham Ghassib, president of PSUT, signed the MOU with President of Darmstadt University of Technology, Professor Dr.-Ing. Johann-Dietrich Wörner. PSUT’s King Hussein School for Information Technology and TU Darmstadt’s Section of Numerical Analysis and Scientific Computations will conduct the implementation of MOU reciprocally.

According to the memorandum, the two universities will initiate cooperative activities in areas of mutual interest for the purposes of exchanging faculty, scholars, and students meant for lecturing advanced studies and research. It also paves way for bilateral coordination in terms of theses, teaching materials, joint symposia, workshops and conferences. The MOU instigates the exchange of visits by members of the faculties of the two institutions, and the exchange of know-how and R&D projects towards conferment.

Professor Ghassib welcomed the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding with TU Darmstadt, stating, “Princess Sumaya University of Technology highly appreciates the cutting-edge approach by Darmstadt University of Technology in terms of extending mutual scientific, technical, and cultural cooperation. This will positively enhance the joint research and development to promote the bilateral academic teamwork in the future.”

Professor Ghassib added, “By realizing this Memorandum of Understanding with Darmstadt University, Princess Sumaya University for Technology attains the international esteem as Jordan’s high-tech educational institution. It is also an authentication on PSUT’s approach to pave the way further for the scientific, cultural, and academic cooperation with the concerned universities around the world.”

On his part, Professor Wörner hailed the MOU’s signing with Princess Sumaya University, and indicated that the memorandum opens the door for TU Darmstadt “to accomplish extra bilateral scientific and cultural cooperation with PSUT in the future, and to recommend an extensive realization of the advanced scientific, cultural and academic growth in Jordan.”

Overall, the MOU stipulates that both universities will do their best to secure national and international financial grants for the envisaged bilateral activities.
