Teachers launch a virtual classroom, offering live, interactive tuition for primary school aged children.

Two teachers from Lancashire are setting up an innovative new service providing homework tuition for primary school children throughout the UK. Parents can register now to receive a free demonstration throughout August. Virtual Homework Tuition will cost just £6 a week for 3 x 30 minute lessons in Numeracy, Literacy and Science. The Virtual Classroom allows live, online tutoring, using audio, instant messaging and a shared whiteboard.

At the beginning of each week children simply register for 3 lessons and select the days and times they wish to receive the lessons. As lessons are repeated throughout the week it is easy to tailor each child’s own timetable to fit in with other activities. When registered children are assigned to a classroom. This will be dependant on the education year group of the child. Each classroom will contain a maximum of 23 children and will be run by a qualified teacher and an SSA. This will allow children who are struggling to be taken to one side, during the lesson and given support. Booster classes, which will be for a maximum of 5 children, will also be run. This service will cost £5 per lesson and will cater for children with special needs, gifted children, SATs revision as well as cater for those children who prefer to be in a smaller class. Lessons will also be run during the day for children educated at home or who are off school due to sickness. Using state of the art technology teachers will be able to speak to the children via a microphone. This delivers incredibly clear and crisp audio -- on bandwidths as low as 28.8K.

A shared whiteboard features easy-to-use and flexible tools for writing, drawing and erasing. The teacher can also assign separate whiteboards to different children or groups so they can work individually or work together on questions. Children and teachers can communicate using a variety of messaging capabilities including private messaging between child and teacher, one-to-one messaging between children and one-to-many messaging by the teacher. This is done using a chat board. Children simply type into this board for all to see. The teacher is able to monitor all messages and has complete control over the lesson. The whiteboard facility enables teachers to involve the children. Each child, as well as the teacher, is able to write on the whiteboard, draw, and highlight, label diagrams, draw lines etc for all to see. The teacher has full control of who can write on the board. A ‘Hands up’ facility allows children to get the teachers attention. If more than one child does that at the same time, it numbers them, so the teacher knows the order to answer their questions in.
