MP WILL LAY IT ON THE TABLE FOR MEGAN BAKER HOUSE

The Conservative MP for Leominster has given his backing to the plight of a local children’s charity. Bill Wiggin visited Megan Baker House at Moreton Eye in North Herefordshire on Friday 15th July and happily accepted a letter and petition from staff and parents.
The letter outlined the grave concerns they hold for current provisions for all children with Special Needs and how existing legislation needs a complete overhaul. It also explained how they believe that Conductive Education is a significant contributor to allowing disabled children to actively participate in mainstream schooling and how it should be given the recognition it deserves.
“Mr Wiggin appeared to be very impressed with our new facility and happily took time out to spend with some of the young people participating in a Conductive Education session,” said Jo Baker-Watson, founder of the charity. “We hope that with his support, the issue of Special Education needs and Conductive Education will be put under the spotlight and change will be within reach,” continued Jo.

Mr Wiggin accepted the petition when it was handed to him and said that due to the summer recess, he’d be tabling it in parliament in October.

“By giving Conductive Education a political edge, we not only hope to affect change but raise its profile,” added the centre’s Senior Conductor, Becky Dodds. “At a time when inclusion is at the centre of national debate, it needs to be given credit for giving young people with motor disabilities the skills they need to become independent learners and high achievers in mainstream education,” Becky concluded.

Families who rely on Conductive Education around the country are also following suit and lobbying their own MP’s. It’s hoped that this new wave of action from supporters of the Conductive Education movement will have an impact on Special Education legislation and ultimately allow young disabled people to reach their true potential and achieve their ambitions.
