Pressbox (Press Release) -
For the MBA aspirants, this is the most crucial season. Not only do they have to prepare and take the MBA entrance exams, but also have to apply for the B-schools that would suit their MBA aspirations and their eligibility. But often they get nervous and tense about their admission, as there are some myths which keep aspirants confused.
If you are one such MBA aspirant, you should know that many of these myths can be demystified. This article of MBAUniverse.com helps you bust some of these myths:
Top B-Schools have high cut-offs - It is a common myth that the top B-schools have high cut offs for the MBA entrance exams like CAT, XAT etc, But when MBAUniverse.com had a deeper look at the cut offs, leaving aside the IIMs, the top 20 to 30 private B-schools in India will have an average cut off from 75 percentile to 85 percentile.
XIM Bhubaneswar has 75 percentile cut off for CAT and XAT for the academic year 2012-14. SPJIMR Mumbai, LIBA Chennai’s cut off for CAT and XAT is 85 percentile. The cutoff of FORE School of Management Delhi is also going to be 85 percentile for CAT 2011. XIME Bangalore will accept cut off of 80 percentile for CAT and XAT scores.
MBA gets more expensive each year-MBA is rated amongst the expensive academic programs one can opt for. Another phenomenon which looms large in the minds of the MBA aspirants is that the private B-schools increase their fee every academic year and hence the fee for each academic year increases in a cumulative manner. This statement is true to a certain extent, but not entirely. XIMB has increased their fee from Rs. 7.75 lakh in the academic year 2011-13 to Rs. 9 lakh in the academic year 2012-14; IMI Delhi will also increase the fee from Rs.9.80 lakh in 2011-13 to Rs. 10.77 lakh in the upcoming year 2012-14; FORE School of Management Delhi is also increasing the fee from Rs. 8 lakh from last year to Rs. 11 lakh this year. While some B-schools are increasing their fee for the academic year 2012-14, many top B-schools will keep the fee same as the last academic year.
The top B-schools which are not increasing their fee for the year 2012-14 are We School Mumbai, TAPMI Manipal, XIME Bangalore, We School Mumbai and Bangalore, IMI Bhubaneswar, IFIM Business School Bangalore, IILM Delhi and Gurgaon and J K Lakshmipat University Jaipur.
Top B-schools have few numbers of seats – You may think that the number of seats offered by the top B-schools is quite limited. But if you have a closer look you will see that on an average, the number of seats offered by the top B-schools in their flagship program alone is 120 to 180.
MBA offers only generalized programs –Many a times, MBA refers to only general MBA program or PGDM programs. Along with the flagship PGDM programs, there are specialized MBA programs in the top B-schools which are away from the league.
Some of the specialized MBA programs are offered in the top private B-schools are MBA in HR, International Business, Retail, Insurance Business, Sustainable Development, Healthcare, Rural Management, Information Technology, Banking & Financial Services, Family Business, Entrepreneurship, Services Management, Travel & Tourism to name a few.
Short list & final selection is only based on MBA entrance exam score – Many MBA aspirants feel that it is only the scores obtained in CAT, XAT and other MBA entrance exams along with your performance in GD, PI and or Essay Writing which determines the final selection to the top B-schools. But your profile plays an equally important role in your short listing and final selection to the B-School.
Many top B-schools like SPJIMR Mumbai, IMI Delhi, Kolkata and Bhubaneswar, TAPMI Manipal and We School Mumbai & Bangalore short list the candidates on the basis of their profiles. Whereas other top B-schools like IMT Group of Institutes, FORE School of Management Delhi, BIMTECH Greater Noida & Bhubaneswar and IFIM Business School Bangalore give weightage to the profile in the final selection process.
You should do MBA only from metros and big cities – Whenever you hear the names of top B-schools and their locations, the names of the metro and big cities such as Delhi NCR, Mumbai, Kolkata and Bangalore come to your mind. This might lead to the notion that good MBA is offered only in the Tier 1 cities of India. But if you keep yourself updated, you will know that top private B-schools have their campuses in Tier 2 and Tier 3 cities as well. These cities are slowly turning out to be management hubs.
