Its 90% engineers with work-ex that enter IIM L this year!

Pressbox (Press Release) - Who all are the students who got through the top B schools this year? MBAUniverse.com takes a look at the batch profiles of the top B schools and comes up with the comprehensive article. To start with, we have IIM Lucknow 2010-12 batch profile.
In a batch size of over 400 students in 2010-12, as compared to 373 students admitted last year (2009-11), the students have sound educational backgrounds and work experience. But in spite of certain B schools breaking the stereotype of having a male dominated campus, IIM Lucknow 2010-12 students are still dominated by male students. 90 per cent of the students are male whereas 10 per cent of them are female.
Educational Background
The educational background is also skewed with respect to students from Engineering backgrounds as well as others. 90 per cent of the students are engineers. It is followed by four per cent Science students, three per cent Commerce students. Two per cent of the students belong to the Humanities background and the rest one per cent are from other educational backgrounds.
Engineering Streams
Since majority of the students belong to the Engineering background, let us explore the streams of engineering from which the 2010-12 IIM Lucknow students are from. Electronics Engineering students top the list with 39 per cent. Next in the league is Computer Science and Engineering with 23 per cent students from this stream. Mechanical Engineering is the next to follow with 22 per cent from this stream and 16 per cent students are from other Engineering backgrounds.
IIM Lucknow mentions, “122 students are IIT and NIT graduates.”
Work experience
Though it is not a compulsory criterion, but having work experience definitely counts in IIMs. The proof is the 90 per cent work experienced students of IIM Lucknow for the 2010-12 batch.
Most of the students have a work experience of two to three years and this consists 25 per cent of the students. Next majority of students have one to two years of work experience and they consist of 22 per cent of the students. 21 per cent of the students have more than four years of work experience. Students with three to four years of work experience consists 18 per cent of the students. Five per cent of the students have up to one year of work experience.
Summer internship industry
In the summer internship industry of IIM Lucknow, most of the students are interested in the Sales & Marketing with a percentage of 33. Followed by that, 23 per cent are in Finance, 12 per cent are in Consulting and 10 per cent in Strategy. Operations and General Management have six per cent and five per cent respectively. IT and Human Resources consist of two per cent each. Eight per cent of the students are interested in other sectors.
While talking about the past employers, IIM Lucknow says, “Past Employers include Nomura, Google, GoI, KPMG, Indian Air Force/Navy, Morgan Stanley, Deloitte and JP Morgan Chase.”
