San Mango d'Aquino, CZ Italia - SanMango.net was officially launched this month by G-site Web of Long Beach, California. SanMango.net is an online pictorial gallery, as well as a collection of evolving related websites which are relevant to the small Calabrian village of San Mango d'Aquino in the province of Catanzaro, Italy. The site serves as a resource for emigrants from the town and the region, as well as students of Italian culture.
"G-site Web has been operating numerous emigrant and genealogical resources on the web for many years and we have found that there is a strong desire for second, third and fourth generation Italian emigrants to discover their history and roots -- to understand where their families originated, so they can put their present life into a context," says Lorenzo Gigliotti, the web developer who created the site and whose family still maintains a residence in the town.
SanMango.net is a photo gallery of typical village life, activities and culture, featuring both secular and religious aspects of this charming and picturesque Italian village. For Gigliotti, the site was a labor of love. The pictures capture the town's essence through photos -- text is kept to a minimum so that visitors from all over the world may enjoy the site and allow the photos to speak for themselves. A special "Links" section contains resources of Calabrian dialect poetry, as well as links to various other Calabrian sites, including a Calabrian History site with materials authored by the regionally and globally known historian Armando Orlando. The site also credits the many people who helped in making this website a reality -- special thanks are extended to: Armando Orlando, Angelo Orlando, Franco Mendicino, Gennaro Assunto and the Comune di San Mango d'Aquino. Students and researchers are invited to use the photos from the site for non-commercial purposes.
G-site is a privately owned, award winning, Long Beach web development, technology and consulting firm. G-site has developed numerous municipal projects, private/public portals and corporate intranets. G-site has also supplied advanced consulting and programming services to other local and global web design companies. Company founder, Lorenzo Gigliotti is a long time Long Beach resident and a member of numerous technology and non-profit organizations.
