DAVENPORT LODGE SCHOOL OPEN DAY WITH A DIFFERENCE
Added: (Wed Mar 10 2010)
Pressbox (Press Release) -
Children at a local school will be given a special insight into Coventry’s history later this month – and prospective parents have been invited to join in.
Davenport Lodge Pre-Preparatory School on Davenport Road, Earlsdon, will run a special programme of events on Monday, March 15th, which focus on the history of Coventry, with the aim of giving pupils a better understanding of the area.
The school, which teaches children up to the age of eight and includes a baby nursery, will welcome prospective parents at any time during the school day to give them a chance to see classrooms at work.
Pru Porretta MBE will be visiting to tell the story of Lady Godiva in a puppet show, Coventry Transport Museum will be sending an original bicycle along with a ‘James Starley’ and a historian will discuss World War II in Coventry and teach wartime songs to the children.
Maureen Martin, Principal of Davenport Lodge, said: “There is no better way to get a sense of what happens in a classroom than to actually see teaching in action, and we hope this will give parents a unique insight into our school.
“By opening the doors, parents will get to see the ways our teachers work and how much our pupils enjoy the environment here.
“We are having a Coventry themed afternoon because our year two and three classes have a topic on Coventry which has really captured their imagination and we feel it is important that pupils have a sense of the history connected with the city.
“We often focus on a single subject to help the children learn and take the chance to get special guests to visit. The children respond very well to this type of teaching whenever we do it.
“We will be having regular school lessons in the morning before starting the Coventry based activities at 1pm, so we hope parents will pop along and see how we teach.”
Davenport Lodge, which recently achieved a 100 per cent success rate in 7+ and 8+ entrance examinations for King Henry VIII Preparatory School and Bablake Junior School, is part of the Alpha Group.
No appointments are necessary for those wishing to attend the open day. For more details, call 024 7667 5051.
