Pressbox (Press Release) - How The Marketing College Is Addressing The Rapidly Growing Skills Shortage

The Marketing College, originally founded in Hampshire, has expanded to new offices in Victoria, central London, doubling its capacity.

The Marketing College specialises in training adults to be internet or digital marketing professionals, where there is a massive skills shortage despite the recession because of the rapid growth and importance of the Internet. Career changers can reasonably expect to tap into salaries of up to £50,000 with just a few years experience. Indeed within a few months of training many are becoming self-employed and commanding even greater earning potential.

One year after setting up The Marketing College in Hampshire to train people in the arts of Search Engine Optimisation (SEO) strategies, utilising Social Media (such as Facebook, Twitter and YouTube) and Pay Per Click (PPC) advertising, founder Fiona Greybe has moved up to the capital due to demand.

The college has attracted the backing of millionaire Winchester businessman and veteran vocational learning entrepreneur Tim Addison after he hired graduates for his other companies.

Fiona, who has ten years experience in Web design and marketing, said: “The course programme we are delivering is proving to be so popular. It is answering a demand in the workplace for people qualified in digital marketing. It is basically marketing in the digital world. There’s a shortage of qualified people out there and a lot of businesses have suddenly woken up to the fact that it is very important to have a website that is properly marketed.”

“The move to London has more than doubled our size and we hope it is going to get bigger and bigger. We are looking at extra courses to take on. We are looking at going business to business and we are even looking at going across to Europe. There’s so much potential for what we are doing. We have got big ideas.”

The Internet Advertising Bureau (www.iabuk.net) the digital marketing industries representative body has commented recently that “We are in the grips of an internet marketing skills shortage” and noted that “In some departments shortages are as high as 50%”.

The leading marketing publication, New Media Age, recently noted that “Every agency is saying the same thing: they can’t get enough experienced search marketers”. This has led to those with the right skills commanding every higher salaries with someone with only 2 years experience getting £40,000 plus outside of London.
