CDS : For the brave hearted candidates!

Pressbox (Press Release) - The CDS exam is for those who wish to serve their country and are extremely passionate about joining the defense services. It is a common entrance test for admission into the army, nave and Air Force.



For those of you who have passion to serve the country and can go to any lengths for the same, applying for the Common Defence Service Test, or CDS test, is the best thing to do. This exam is conducted by the UPSC twice a year for recruitment to the army, navy and air force. Generally, the CDS exams question paper is seen as a very tough one, so much so that it is even compared to the likes of the IIT exams and CAT in terms of the level of intelligence required to crack it. It is generally conducted in the months of May and October, and is for admission into one of the four premier defense institutions of the country :




(a) Indian Military Academy (IMA), Dehradun

(b) Naval Academy, Goa

(c) Air Force Academy, Begumpet, Hyderabad

(d) Officers Training Academy (OTA), Chennai




Eligibility



Educational Qualifications:

For Naval Academy: B.Sc. with Physics and/or Mathematics or Bachelor of Engineering.



For IMA /OTA : The candidates must have a degree from a recognized University or equivalent.

For Air Force Academy: B.Sc. of a recognized University or equivalent with Physics and/or Mathematics as subjects or Bachelor of Engineering.



Age:




For IMA: Unmarried male candidates between 19-24 years on 1st January or 1st July of the year succeeding the year of examination.

For Air Force Academy: Unmarried male candidates between 19-23 years on 1st January or 1st July of the year succeeding the year of examination.



For Naval Academy: Unmarried male candidates between 19-22 years on 1st January or 1st July of the year succeeding; the year of examination.

For Officers Training Academy: Male candidates (married or unmarried) between 19-25 years on 1st January or 1st July of the year succeeding the year of examination.





The examination is held at 40 centres across the country, and selection is based on the applicants' score in the following stages :



(a) Written Examination

(b) Interview and personality test, which is done by the Service Selection Board. If the candidate is selected, based on the choices given by him/her and his/her merit list ranking, he/she is sent to one of the four institutes.
